Rare Vintage 80's Yamaha SBG 2100 "Les Paul Killer" made in Japan
Available for sale is a single owner Vintage 1985 Yamaha SBG 2100 "Les Paul Killer" made in Japan and purchased at the Guitar center on Sunset Blvd (when there was only two of them).. With features like neck through construction, super clean sounding humbuckers, a bone nut, and brass saddles, this game changing guitar gave the Gibson a much needed wake-up call in the early 80's. The SBG 2001 has a carved, mildly figured three-piece maple top, with the grain of the center section set perpendicular to the sides. Instead of a set neck, it features a three-piece mahogany/maple/mahogany laminated neck-through design conducive to greater sustain.
The body wings consist of a “sandwich” of laminated mahogany. In order to further enhance sustain, the SBG has a brass block under the bridge. This particular guitar has a resonance and tone that is unbeatable, standing up to and beating the sound of any modern high end instrument. As can be seen in the photos, this guitar has seen some use and the headstock has some clouding. This "Les Paul Killer" comes with a luxurious leather strap, strap locks, original and a branded, fitted case that came with the guitar when it was purchased.
What’s special about this guitar:
This is a great playing, beautiful sounding Yamaha SBG 2100 set up by James Hood. This guitar has some great features including neck-though-body construction, a phenomenal sounding pair of humbuckers, contoured body and a super comfy slender neck. The pickups have an excellent presence to them. They offer plenty of output and sustain but also have a lot of clarity and somewhat of a single-coil voicing. The slender neck makes this guitar instantly comfortable.
Condition:
Very good overall shape! There are very few surface scratches on the body, there is wear on the pickups and the gold bridge shows hand wear as it was lovingly played by an avid guitarist/collector. The original pickguard has never been used (not pictured but is included), bottom line, the guitar is in very good shape for its age! The fingerboard and frets are in great shape with only light play wear and tons of life left in them. The neck is very comfortable with great action up and down the fingerboard and the truss rod functions perfectly. All electronics and parts are in perfect working condition.
Body:
Solid contoured double-cutaway mahogany body with neck-through-body construction and a bound maple top in a translucent tea sunburst finish. Engraved STOP tailpiece and TOM bridge. Skirted control knobs with silver inserts and a 2-ply black pickguard (not shown, never used, is included in package)
Neck:
Three-piece mahogany/maple neck with neck-through-body construction. Bound Ebony fingerboard with split and pointed pearloid inlays and a 1 11/16” nut. Bound headstock with sealed Yamaha tuners, 24 ¾” scale length.
Pickups/Electronics:
Yamaha SG-3000 humbuckers in the neck and bridge with dual volume and tone controls and a 3-way selector switch.
